We try to keep our adoption fee as low as possible, but many people don't understand why we charge an adoption fee when many people give unwanted animals away for free. Cabarrus Pets Society charges the adoption fee to help pay for the medical costs incurred by every animal who goes through our program. The spay/neuter surgery costs are included in the fee.  If you were to pay your vet for the medical care and spay/neuter surgery, it would cost several times the amount of our adoption fee.  If your adoption application is approved, one of our representatives will go over the animal's medical record with you at the time of the adoption. We will answer any questions you may have and make sure that  you understand what shots and treatments have already been given, when the animal's next dose of heartworm preventative is due, and if/when other vaccines are due. You will get a copy of your new pet's medical record to give to your vet. 


Beginning June 1, 2010, our adoption fee for dogs and puppies will be $140.00. This fee includes all vaccines that the animal will need according to its age, up the the day of adoption. The adoption fee also includes heartworm testing and monthly heart worm prevention, monthly flea prevention, deworming, micro-chipping, and spay or neuter surgery at the Charlotte or Cabarrus Spay/Neuter Clinic. Should the animal need any other medical care during his or her time with us, it would also be included in the $140.00 adoption fee.  After adoption, all medical care, with the exception of the spay/neuter surgery (in the case of a puppy that is too young to have the surgery before adoption), is the responsibility of the new guardian. 

For your convenience, we gladly accept cash, check, or credit card. Please add $5.00 to the adoption fee for credit card payments, as it costs over $4.00 to use the credit card payment feature. Thanks so much for your understanding.
